When the story the "Form of the Sword" was written, the Irish were fighting for Independence from the British. The Emerald isle was under British rule at the time. The Irish people organized a resistance movement to remove the British monarchy. The Easter Rising in Dublin set off another war between the two nations. In 1921, a cease-fire was instated in Ireland and in 1922, the Irish and the British decided that the British would get some of Northern Ireland and the Irish controlled the rest of the isle.

This is the Irish Independence Memorial. It was created to celebrate the freedom Ireland received from Great Britain.
